Talking Murder

Only Murders in the Building successfully tapped into true crime podcast popularity to develop a humorous murder mystery. Peacock is taking their own approach to the genre with the upcoming Based on a True Story. It is co-created by Jason Bateman and stars Kaley Cuoco and Chris Messina in the lead roles.

Ava Bartlett (Cuoco) is a realtor and her husband Nathan (Messina) is recently unemployed. When the West Side Ripper begins murdering people in their neighborhood, the true crime obsessed Ava decides to start a podcast centered around the dangerous killer. Though it might lead to an arrest, the podcast seems more as a financial endeavor to exploit the current notoriety. Soon, the couple find themselves much more entangled in their subject matter than they had anticipated.

Stream the entire first season of Based on a True Story beginning Thursday, June 8, on Peacock.
