The internet was aflutter with buzz thanks to a newly released still image from the set of Deadpool 3. The image showcases Wolverine in his classic blue and yellow costume–something fans have wanted since the very first time Hugh Jackman played the character.
Fans of the comics will note the design looks like a twist on the John Cassaday design from his run on Astonishing X-Men.
Check out the image from the set of Deadpool 3 below.
As you can see with Cassady’s design below, the real-life costume also has a similar design along the sides and rib area. The use of blue instead of black is also a dead giveaway, as the classic Wolverine costume utilized black instead of blue on the shoulder and sides. The costume in Deadpool 3 also has a red belt buckle. Both Cassady’s and the Deadpool 3 costumes also miss the blue trunks.
The biggest change in the Deadpool 3 costume is the full sleeve, and of course, we can’t see a mask in the image above, but how could they not implement that?
For comparison’s sake, check out the original costume design below by John Romita Jr. and the modern look by Gil Kane.
The buzz around Deadpool 3 has been intense in the last two weeks as filming has taken place in the United Kingdom. It seems like every other day, we learn MCU characters like Elektra are making appearances, although since it’s so early, I’d temper expectations as these things can change quite a bit.
At least they are filming the movie, as it’s quite possible it can meet its May 3, 2024, release date if they can wrap filming this summer.
