On Friday, Borys Kit and Aaron Couch of The Hollywood Reporter exclusively revealed that Jennifer Garner will be joining Deadpool 3 film as Elektra. Yes, the same Elektra that she played in the 2003 Daredevil movie and the character’s 2005 solo film.
It was obviously big news when Hugh Jackman agreed to play Wolverine opposite Ryan Reynold’s beloved portrayal of Wade Wilson. It has also been begged for and rumored for a long time. This, on the other hand, came entirely out of left field.

On the positive side of things, Jennifer Garner’s presence in any project is good. She’s an amazing actor who’s also done a lot of genre work during her career. In fact, one of the few missteps you’ll ever find from here is the 2005 Elektra film, which joins the Iron Fist series as one of the few pre-Disney Marvel projects no one really wanted to explore further.
To be fair, that isn’t Garner’s fault. Give her a good script and she’ll knock it out of the park every time. Heck, just watch the director’s cut of the 2003 Daredevil movie (which is significantly better than the version shown in theaters) and you’ll see how much more she could’ve done with the character.
All that being said, it’s difficult to envision how her character would fit into the upcoming Deadpool movie. Even with some whacky multiversal hijinks, it’ll be a challenge for the script to make Elektra’s inclusion feel organic. It will also feel like a waste if she’s simply brought in for a gag cameo (which would still be hilarious).
Let’s hope Deadpool 3 gives us at least one good scene of Garner’s Elektra busting out her sais to kick ass again.
