Welcome back to another edition of Fantastic Five, where we look back at the best comics of the week! This week, DC continued forging ahead with its groundbreaking Alan Scott: The Green Lantern, while Marvel released another excellent Marvel’s Voices collection. Let’s take a look at the books!
#5: Titans: Beast World #6
Titans: Beast World was an adventurous event that placed the Titans in the public spotlight, both in the universe and on the comic stands. As a cohesive event, a lot happened to the DC Universe, and there will likely be quite a bit of aftermath from this story. Which, at the end of the day, is what makes an event successful. Beast World had no shortage of shocking reveals, high stakes, and riveting action. More importantly, very little of this felt like shock value for the sake of shock value. In its final issue, Titans: Beast World wraps up rather successfully with few criticisms overall. Taylor, Reis, Pansica, and Meyer all worked to deliver an event that was well thought out and valuable in substance.

#4: Dead X-Men #1
In Dead X-Men #1, the long-awaited return of an all-new X-Men team arrives. Their mission is complete, but their story has only just begun. It’s like an Exiles book by way of the Fall of X, and the action is almost nonstop. As Fall of the House of X and Rise of the Powers of X form the core of the X-Line, Dead X-Men has quickly established itself as an essential companion to the maddening web that Gillen is weaving with his side of the story. X-Fans, make sure you don’t miss out on this.

#3: Avengers: Twilight #2
Avengers: Twilight #2 continues to flesh out a new vision of the Marvel Universe, with its creative team tackling some truly timely subjects. With the big reveal of this issue, I can’t wait to see what the next installment brings – and what else has happened to Earth’s Mightiest Heroes after their fall from grace.

#2: Marvel’s Voices: Legends #1
Once again, I’m blown away by Marvel’s Voices, this time in its Legends format. Each comic story offers something fun, thought-provoking, or downright riveting. The bonus materials only sweeten the deal in a buy-on-sight series.

#1: Alan Scott: The Green Lantern #4
It’s hard to find much to dislike about Alan Scott: The Green Lantern, and issue #4 is no different. Once again, DC has knocked it out of the park with a comic that begs to be read, analyzed, and reread over and over again. It will be interesting to see where this comic goes as the end approaches, and it’s absolutely worth a read or four.
