Editors Note: Per The Beat Katie Kubert is NOT the new Batman Group Editor. And in fact, Katie is stepping in to support the Gotham Editorial team until a replacement is found for Ben Abernathy.
Chip Zdarsky revealed via his Substack newsletter there’s been a change at DC Comics, as Katie Kubert is now his editor on Batman.
The news comes just a few days after Bleeding Cool revealed via unspecified sources Ben Abernathy was leaving as Batman Group Editor.
Kubert has been an editor at DC Comics for the last six and a half years, with two years and four months at Marvel prior to that and over five years prior to that editing at DC Comics. She’s no slouch when it comes to Batman, as she was editing the Batman family of titles prior to her Marvel work.
We, as of yet, don’t know why Abernathy has moved away from Batman, but given how many creator-owned publishers have sprouted in recent months (Ghost Machine, DSTLRY, etc), it’s highly possible he’s setting up shop elsewhere.
Outside of X-Men, Batman has to be one of the most sought-after editing gigs in Big Two comics. So with that, a big congratulations goes out to Katie for this new shift at DC Comics!
