DC Comics may be getting ahead of leaks to introduce their long hinted-at “Ultimate Universe,” ala Marvel Comics called “Absolute.” Taking place over YouTube tomorrow, Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at 12:00 pm PDT, Scott Snyder and Joshua Williamson will be presenting something big. In DC Comics’ words:
DC invites you to join us for a special conversation between fan-favorite writers Scott Snyder and Joshua Williamson to hear about some of the big changes in store for the DC Universe in the wake of this summer’s blockbuster event, Absolute Power!
The timing is perfect, with San Diego Comic-Con coming soon, as well as to get the hype meter up to 11. As far as the two creators presenting tomorrow, Scott Snyder and Joshua Williamson have plenty of experience building out DC Comics’ line of stories. Not only have they worked together on many projects, including events, but you could easily say they have both led DC Comics’ entire line of comics for the last ten years. It’s very likely they’re the head architects of this huge endeavor.

The idea behind Absolute is simple enough. Create a new universe introducing all the core heroes and villains with tweaks that appeal to longtime fans but at the ground level to appeal to new readers. The concept worked for Marvel twice, so why not give it a shot?
