A new episode of Top Chef brought on more fun challenges related to the culture of the host country of Canada. This week, the competitors did their own take on a popular Toronto street food and participated in a very hockey themed elimination. We saw another chef leave the competition, which impacted our Power Rankings.
During the quickfire, the contestants were tasked with creating their own version of a Jamaican patty. Fortunately, they were given a little more time than usual since they had to make their own dough from scratch. The $10,000 prize for winning was just a little more motivation along with the bragging rights.
This week was also the appearance of Top Chef’s gimmicky sports related elimination challenge. Since they were in Canada, it all revolved around hockey. First, although they could use heat during preparation, the dish had to be served cold. The kicker was they had their choice from a selection of hockey terms. After their selection, they learned each term was food related and they had to incorporate that ingredient into their dish.
Not to be outdone, Last Chance Kitchen had the chefs try to score a culinary hat trick on Tom Colicchio. They had 45 minutes to make three separate dishes that gained their judge’s approval. There was a last second pivot to the challenge after one of the contestants voluntarily stepped away from competing.

New episodes of Top Chef air Thursdays on Bravo.
