We have some very good anime included into our Channel Surfing TV picks. For those looking for more baseball after the season opening last week, check out Catch Me at the Ballpark. The video game Devil May Cry receives an adaptation. Then, Shinichirō Watanabe returns to sci-fi with Lazarus.
Take Me Out to the Ballgame
Who doesn’t love a good sports story. They usually involve an individual or a plucky team coming together to defy the odds and be successful. Catch Me at the Ballpark isn’t quite like that.
The anime is more about the spectator than the player. Murata is an office drone who goes to watch his local baseball team more as an escape from his tiring job. There he meets Ruriko, a cute girl who works as a vendor. The more they get to know each other, the more the ballpark, and maybe their hearts, are lightened up. The series is an adaptation of the manga of the same name from Tatsuro Sugar.
Stream the premiere of Catch Me at the Ballpark beginning Tuesday, April 1, on Crunchyroll.
Hunting Demons
The Devil May Cry follows Dante, an orphaned demon-hunter-for-hire. While dangerous forces try to open a portal between the realms of demon and man, Dante is unaware that he has the key to saving the world.
The show is based off of the popular franchise from Capcom. It is developed by Adi Shankar, who knows a thing or two about video game anime adaptations. Studio Mir serves as the production company.
Stream the entire first season of Devil May Cry starting on Thursday, April 3, on Netflix.
Searching for a Cure
Shinichirō Watanabe is the legendary creator behind the seminal anime, Cowboy Bebop. Though he’s worked on other series afterwards, he never went back to science fiction until now.
Lazarus takes place in a world where a brilliant scientist develops a miracle drug called Hapna that frees its users from any pain. Unfortunately, the scientist had alternative motives for his discovery. He had lost hope in humanity and engineered the drug to be fatal for anyone who used it. Now a covert team of agents must search for a cure before time runs out.
Lazarus premiers Saturday, April 5, on Adult Swim.
