The situation for Harry and the Harrigans on MobLand is already sticky as they manage their criminal empire. However, the grisly discovery from the last episode won’t make things any easier.
“Plan B” ratchets up the tension as the gang war between the Harrigans and the Stevensons breaks out. Although there is one heck of an opening salvo, there is very little action afterwards. Still, the story keeps you at the edge of your seat excited to see what happens next and how the different parties will respond.
What is also intriguing in the episode of MobLand is seeing the tension within the Harrigans. Not everyone gets along, and they do have their fair share of boneheads. Particularly, it is difficult to get a grasp on matriarch, Maeve. It seems she doesn’t always have the family’s best interest at heart and acts as an agent of chaos. Considering her standing and influence, she is more likely to cause harm than good. Despite this, you can see why Maeve pairs so well with Conrad because she shares his cold blooded nature when it comes to business.
Tom Hardy continues to excel in the role of Harry. The character’s cool and collected demeanor comes out as he continues to fix problems. The confrontation with his would be assailants is a stand out as he slyly talks down the potential attackers with common sense while even offering them to burn down his house.

Speaking of Harry, MobLand explores an interesting dynamic between him and Kevin. It was previously alluded to that Conrad’s son was how Harry became involved with the family. Their interrogation demonstrates their closeness and how they know how each other thinks. The good cop/bad cop game they play adds a level of humor and levity that doesn’t feel out of place from the violent dealings at hand.
As much as the show focuses on Harry’s ability as a fixer, it’s going overboard with the problems he must overcome, and we’re only in the third episode. Deescalating a gang war is enough, but throw in his personal issues, scheming family members, avoiding the police, and bad guys from his past, it all becomes too much. Part of it is planting seeds for later, but the narrative is becoming muddled.
The biggest complaint of this episode of MobLand is the huge suspension of disbelief after the explosive events. Plotwise, you would expect the local authorities would tamp down on crime and have more of a presence, especially when they have an idea of who’s causing it. Then, there’s Harry’s ultimate plan regarding Tommy. At least Harry admittedly believes it’s a Hail Mary.
“Plan B” ratchets up the tension keeping viewers on the edge of their seat, but suffers from odd plot choices.
