Top Chef season 22 entered its sixth week of the competition. The show returned to its regular format of a quickfire and elimination challenges. When it was all said and done, another contestant went home affecting the Power Rankings.
For the quickfire, the chefs didn’t know their off camera lunch orders from Chipotle would play a role. They would have to use the real ingredients from their order and remix them into an original dish. Much like the fast casual restaurant, can openers and the freezer were off limits. Top Chef Master Susur Lee and his son Jet Bent Lee served as guest judges.
Last season’s winner Danny Garcia then came out to explain the elimination challenge. The competitors would be divided into two teams of five and would need to create a five course progressive pickle menu. Each course relied on a different pickle: cornichons, full sour, dill, spicy, and bread and butter. Since they both had immunity, Tristen and Bailey were team captains. As an added reward, the winner received a coveted spot in the James Beard Foundation’s Chef Bootcamp for Policy and Change.
Last Chance Kitchen kept the pickle theme going. The chefs were given a wide variety of pickled ingredients to choose from and they needed to form a cohesive dish using three of them. The catch was each would be selecting the ingredients for their opponent so there was an element of strategy.
Let’s see where everybody stands in the Top Chef Power Rankings after week six.
