New space opera ‘Red Vector’ announced for August 2025

The earthbound space opera from the creators of Morning Star and Crush Depth begins!

Courtesy of Mad Cave Studios, AIPT can announce Red Vector, a new “space opera” comic series. Part Battlestar Galactica, part Saga, part Enemy Mine, Red Vector promises to be a fast, funny, and heartfelt sci-fi fantasy that asks: What happens when the galaxy’s biggest war crashes into your backyard?

Written by Tim Daniel and David “DB” Andry, with art by Chris Evenhuis, colors by Sjan Weijers, letters by Buddy Beaudoin, and a variant cover by Meghan Hetrick, the series launches on August 27th.

“Any time you tell someone you’re writing a space fantasy, Star Wars comparisons come fast—and with Red Vector, we welcome them,” said Tim Daniel. “This story crash lands that galaxy far, far away onto Earth, tapping into the dreamer in all of us who still looks to the stars for adventure. It’s filled with the same hope and optimism DB and I bring to all our work, but with a tone and subject that feels uniquely its own. And with Chris Evenhuis and Sjan Weijers bringing this cast and world to life so beautifully, we couldn’t be prouder to share it.”

So what’s Red Vector about?

Cora Martinez has seen her fair share of conflict—as a Sonoran Desert Park Ranger, she straddles the line between sheltering desperate immigrants and steering others away from an uncertain fate. She longs for a place where disputes such as these no longer exist. But a clash far bigger than any on Earth is about to rip the heavens apart and crash land upon her doorstep with the arrival of two opposing combatants in an alien civil war through a rift in space! The earthbound space opera from the creators of Morning Star and Crush Depth begins!

David “DB” Andry, series co-writer, added, “Red Vector is everything I want in a comic—action, drama, spaceships, grumpy robots, and a bit of heart. It’s fun, fast, and filled with wonder, the way Return of the Jedi felt to me as a kid. Working with Chris Evenhuis and Sjan Weijers was a dream—they brought every moment to life with clarity, emotion, and spectacle. I couldn’t ask for a better team.”

“Working on Red Vector with Tim, DB, Sjan, and James at Mad Cave has been an absolute joy,” said Chris Evenhuis. “Having grown up as a BIG fan of classic space opera fiction, it has also been the one genre I’ve never had the pleasure to explore as a comic artist, until now. And Tim and DB definitely delivered the goods: a troubled allyship between a grieving, hot(headed) rebel leader and a genius former engineer from an oppressive empire, a bright-eyed, everyday heroine dreaming of a better world for the most vulnerable (be it here or in a galaxy far away), a tormented villain, a scientific-marvel-turned-terrible-weapon, killer droids… It’s all here!”
