Our Channel Surfing TV picks of the week involve superheroes, the culinary scene, and children’s games. Riri Williams stars in her own series with Ironheart. The fate of our favorite Chicago restaurant and its people are up in the air during the final season of The Bear. Then, Gi-Hun looks to end the secret contest for good in Squid Game season three.
Tech vs. Magic
Riri Williams made her MCU on-screen debut in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. After aiding Shuri against Namor and his people, she returned to MIT to continue her college education. The upcoming Ironheart follows her next chapter.
In the series, Williams is still trying to make her mark on the world using her brilliant mind. She leaves her university and finds herself back in her hometown of Chicago. While continuing her work creating an iron suit, she becomes tangled with the mysterious figure Parker Robbins and his plans.
The first three episodes of Ironheart release Tuesday, June 24, on Disney+.
Fighting the Chaos
When we last left The Bear, the restaurant wasn’t doing so well financially. There was a sliver of hope that an important review could help turn things around. At the same time, sous chef Sydney contemplated a big career decision whether to jump ship or to remain with her found family.
In season four, the crew is on the clock. There is only so much money left financing The Bear and it’s gradually approaching zero. Can Carmy let go of his toxic traits to help turn their fortunes around? With all the drama surrounding the restaurant, will an old family member serve as calming factor or add to the turmoil?
Stream the entire fourth season of The Bear beginning Wednesday, June 25, on Hulu.
End Game
Squid Game’s Gi-hun is at a low point. He led a failed uprising against the architects behind the deadly game due to a sneaky double cross. In the process, he suffers the loss of someone close to him.
Unfortunately for Gi-hun, there is more that needs to be played. He will be forced to make vital decisions even as the situation turns more grim for him and his allies. Meanwhile, the Front Man welcomes some new VIPs while his brother continues to search for the hard to find island where the games are held.
The full third season of Squid Game releases Friday, June 27, on Netflix.
