David Aja brings pulp noir flair to ‘Universal Monsters: The Invisible Man’ variant covers

Aja’s covers pay homage to the classic Universal Pictures film that inspired the series, blending vintage pulp aesthetics with his signature noir flair.

Skybound Entertainment and Image Comics, in collaboration with Universal Products & Experiences, have revealed a striking new series of pulp-style variant covers by superstar artist David Aja for the upcoming horror comic Universal Monsters: The Invisible Man. The four-issue limited series, launching in August 2025, comes from Eisner-winning writer James Tynion IV (Something Is Killing the Children, Exquisite Corpses), acclaimed artist DANI (The Low, Low Woods), and colorist Brad Simpson (The Amazing Spider-Man).

Aja’s covers pay homage to the classic Universal Pictures film that inspired the series, blending vintage pulp aesthetics with his signature noir flair. Each cover will serve as a 1:10 incentive variant (Cover C) for all four issues.

The story explores the chilling origins of Jack Griffin, a man who has always felt invisible… until science makes it literal. As he descends into madness and sheds the last traces of his humanity, a monster is born—the Invisible Man.

Issue #1 will also feature a main cover by DANI and Simpson, the first part of Aja’s connecting cover series, and variants from top talents including Joshua Middleton, Rosemary Valero-O’Connell, Alex Ross, Christian Ward, and a blank sketch edition.

This marks the fifth entry in Skybound and Universal’s monster line, following Dracula, Creature from the Black Lagoon Lives!, Frankenstein, and The Mummy. More limited series pairing major comic talent with legendary monsters are already in the works.

Universal Monsters: The Invisible Man #1 hits comic shops and digital platforms (Kindle, Apple Books, Google Play) on August 27, 2025, for $4.99. Cover codes and ordering info for Aja’s variants are listed below:
