This year marks three decades since Age of Apocalypse, the landmark X-Men crossover that defined the ‘90s and left a lasting mark on comics, its legacy now inspiring the upcoming Age of Revelation event and next month’s sequel series X-Men of Apocalypse by Jeph Loeb and Simone Di Meo. To celebrate, Marvel will release X-Men: Tales from the Age of Apocalypse #1 this November, a special one-shot collecting the debut issues of four core titles from the original saga: Astonishing X-Men #1, Factor X #1, Weapon X #1, and Amazing X-Men #1.
When Age of Apocalypse launched in 1995, Marvel stunned readers by canceling all its main X-Men books and replacing them with a radically reimagined line set in a dark alternate reality. In this dystopia, Professor X died two decades earlier in a time-travel accident, paving the way for Apocalypse to rise and impose his brutal rule: only the strong survive. Hidden among humanity’s oppressed survivors, Magneto leads a desperate resistance—featuring drastically altered versions of familiar heroes—in a fight for freedom. Along the way, readers encounter strikingly different takes on icons like Cyclops, Havok, and Wolverine, each reshaped by this war-torn world.
Featuring a brand-new cover by Paco Medina, X-Men: Tales from the Age of Apocalypse #1 is available to preorder now at your local comic shop.
