This October, Age of Revelation launches a dramatic new era for Marvel, propelling the X-Men ten years into a future where Doug Ramsey, Apocalypse’s heir, now known as Revelation, has built a mutant utopia with the power of his voice. What begins as a promise of paradise quickly grows into a global takeover, with humanity pushed to the brink.
The saga kicks off in Age of Revelation: Overture #1, a one-shot from the powerhouse X-Men team of writer Jed MacKay and artist Ryan Stegman. On sale October 1, the issue lays the groundwork for a sweeping line of new Age of Revelation titles and a bold reimagining of the current X-Men landscape.
Stegman leads with the main cover, joined by variants from Aaron Kuder, Mark Bagley, Cory Smith, and Rickie Yagawa—whose piece is the first in a series of Character Variant Covers that will define the event’s launch. Stanley “Artgerm” Lau also delivers a stunning take on Psylocke, available in both standard and virgin variant editions.
In this vision of the future, Revelation fulfills Apocalypse’s command to create a world where only the strongest endure. Using his amplified mutant gift, Doug bends the Earth itself to shape a mutant homeland—an apparent paradise hiding a devastating truth as it spreads across continents. By this time, the Revelation Territories stretch from the Atlantic to the Mississippi, ruled under his iron utopia. Yet rebellion stirs, as a scrappy band of X-Men strike from the shadows to ignite resistance.
As MacKay told AIPT in X-Men Monday, the thrill of this setting is in the “secret history” it reveals, catching up with characters after a decade of upheaval, discovering how their lives and relationships have shifted, and leaving just enough mystery for readers to speculate on what’s still to come.
