Black Panther goes cosmic in explosive new Marvel era after Hickman’s ‘Imperial’ #4

BLACK PANTHER: INTERGALACTIC, a four-issue limited series by Victor LaValle and Stefano Nesi, launches in December.

The Marvel Universe’s cosmic side is undergoing a seismic shift thanks to Imperial, the four-issue event series from Jonathan Hickman, Iban Coello, and Federico Vicentini. That saga sets the stage for an ambitious new wave of space-set stories, including Planet She-Hulk, Nova: Centurion, and now, the newly announced Black Panther: Intergalactic.

Launching this December, Black Panther: Intergalactic is a four-issue limited series written by Victor LaValle (Wolverine: Sabretooth War) with art by rising star Stefano Nesi (Gwenpool). Spinning directly out of Hickman’s Imperial War: Black Panther one-shot, the series finds T’Challa clearing Wakanda’s name after being framed for a galaxy-shaking assassination—and uncovering a larger conspiracy that leaves him stranded in deep space. Alone and armed only with his will, T’Challa must fight for survival while shadowy forces plot to seize Wakanda’s throne in his absence.

LaValle promises to explore T’Challa’s resilience: “He’s had real lows and learned from being down. Now he’s ready to rise. Become a king again? Maybe. Or maybe something more.” Nesi adds, “Taking on Black Panther’s adventures in space is an exciting challenge. Victor’s writing brings a powerful take to T’Challa that I can’t wait to bring to life.”

Black Panther: Intergalactic joins the first wave of Marvel’s post-Imperial universe, alongside Planet She-Hulk by Stephanie Phillips and Aaron Kuder, and Nova: Centurion by Jed MacKay and *Álvaro López. Each title builds on the fallout of Hickman’s event, introducing bold new directions for Marvel’s cosmic line.

  • In Planet She-Hulk #2, Jennifer Walters tests whether she can bring peace to Sakaar with both brains and gamma-powered muscle.

  • In Nova: Centurion #2, Richard Rider faces Ravenous, the killer of countless Nova Corpsmen, in a story that ties back to the Annihilation War.

With Marvel declaring, “The Marvel cosmos is no more. Long live the Union,” these series mark the start of a radically reshaped galaxy—and fans can preorder them now at their local comic shop.
