On the latest AIPT Comics Podcast, we caught up with Taboo (Black Eyed Peas) and B. Earl about their upcoming Ultimate Hawkeye one-shot. You can listen to the convo here (or wherever you get podcasts), but let’s pluck some morsels that you won’t want to miss.
From honoring a late collaborator to teasing what’s next at Marvel, here are five big takeaways from our conversation.
1. Ultimate Hawkeye gives Charli Ramsey their own spotlight
The issue marks the first-ever solo one-shot in Marvel’s relaunched Ultimate line, shining the light on Charli Ramsey outside of Ultimates. For Taboo and B. Earl, it was a chance to build out a character who’s had little page time so far and explore new dimensions of identity.
2. A new Ultimate Ronin will be revealed
Without spoiling specifics, the duo confirmed that the book will introduce an all-new Ultimate Ronin identity. Fans can expect a “cool moment” that plants threads for future stories in the larger Ultimate Endgame build-up.
3. Dedicated to Jeffrey Veregge
Taboo shared that the issue is dedicated to Indigenous artist Jeffrey Veregge, who passed away in 2021. Calling him a “third member” of their creative team, both writers reflected on how Veregge’s work bridging mythology and pop culture continues to inspire their Marvel projects.
4. Echo gets a new power in Indigenous Voices
Beyond Ultimate Hawkeye, the duo teased a new Echo story set in Los Angeles that will appear in a future Indigenous Voices special. The story introduces a new power for Maya Lopez, opening the door for fresh adventures.
5. More Marvel projects (and beyond) are on the way
Taboo and B. Earl also hinted at a Blade story in the works, while Taboo revealed he recently co-created a Dora the Explorer episode with his daughter Jet for Paramount/Nickelodeon. Meanwhile, B. Earl discussed his new Saudi Arabia–based studio, Weird Bunch, where he’s developing animation, toys, and a comic called The Legend of Solomon.
Bottom line: Ultimate Hawkeye isn’t just a milestone for the new Ultimate Universe — it’s a deeply personal project for Taboo and B. Earl, packed with reinvention, legacy, and new beginnings.
