Rob Liefeld is dialing things up for his long-awaited Youngblood comeback next month, and collectors are going to want to pay attention. Alongside the main series launch, Liefeld is introducing a striking new Manga-inspired “black, white, and red” edition for each issue, titled Cover M, that strips away full color in favor of bold grayscale art with splashes of crimson across both covers and interiors. On top of this, I’ve already reported on the Youngblood team variant cover series.
These ultra-rare editions reimagine Youngblood through a Japanese comics lens, blending Liefeld’s signature bombastic superhero style with the kinetic flair and visual rhythm of classic manga storytelling. “I love the style and design of manga comics,” Liefeld explained. “These editions are my attempt to capture that energy, and readers have really responded to them. I’ll be creating a manga edition for every issue moving forward.”
And that’s just the start. Youngblood (2025) is set to launch with a massive variant cover blitz, including 27 retailer exclusives, 30 crossover team-up covers, and a lineup of rare incentive variants ready to dominate comic shop walls.
Originally released in 1992, Youngblood #1 kicked off the Image Comics revolution and remains one of the best-selling indie comics of all time, surpassing one million copies sold. Now, with Liefeld back at the controls and armed with bold new ideas, Youngblood is ready to reclaim its crown — and look better than ever doing it.
