Bishop, the energy-absorbing X-Man, comes from one of mutantkind’s bleakest futures, and now he returns in his own solo series. The new five-issue limited series from writer Saladin Ahmed (Wolverine) and rising artist Mario Santoro (Storm) launches on June 10th.
The series throws Bishop into a battle against fate when the Final Brotherhood, a new group of villains from his timeline, travel to the past with a mission to erase him from the present. To stop them and protect the timeline, Bishop will reunite with his sister Shard, a fan-favorite character from 1990s X-Factor and earlier Bishop stories. Her tragic fate has long haunted him, and her sudden return raises impossible choices.
Like recent solo X-titles such as Rogue and Cyclops, BISHOP aims to deliver a focused adventure that explores the character’s legacy while pushing him into one of his most dangerous missions yet.
The time-lost X-Man returns
Bishop has always lived by a strict code. That code faces its greatest test when Shard arrives in the present moments before the moment she was meant to die. Bishop now faces an impossible decision. Will he protect the timestream, or will he risk everything to save the person who matters most to him?
“I’m having a blast doing a deep dive into the dark corners of Lucas Bishop’s time-travel traumatized mind!” Ahmed said. “I’m a writer who loves both family drama and spectacle, so getting to juxtapose the big visual comic book elements of temporal warping and explosive powers with the quiet pain and joy of sibling relationships is my happy place.”
Santoro is equally excited to explore the character. “When I drew issues of Storm, I also had the pleasure of drawing Bishop, and I really enjoyed doing it. I never imagined that I would get a chance to draw an incredible solo adventure for the character,” Santoro shared. “I have always loved the X-Men, and I’m thrilled every time I get to work with one of them. I’m also excited to work with a fantastic team led by [Editor] Darren Shan and alongside Saladin Ahmed, who wrote an incredible story for Lucas.”
Ahmed also teased the visual surprises waiting inside the book. “Mario Santoro’s pages for this are a thrill, including some INSANE designs for our new ‘hybrid’ mutant villains, the Final Brotherhood!”
