This May, Marvel Comics celebrates 20 years of Civil War with Civil War: Unmasked, a five-issue limited series from writer Christos Gage and artist Edgar Salazar. The series explores untold stories set before, during, and after the original event, offering a new perspective on some of its biggest and most defining moments. Each issue will also feature connecting variant covers by Paulo Siqueira, with colors by Rachelle Rosenberg, highlighting key scenes like Spider-Man’s unmasking and the final clash between Captain America and Iron Man.

Civil War remains one of Marvel’s most successful stories, inspiring follow-ups across comics, film, and beyond. Civil War: Unmasked revisits that era with fresh insight, digging deeper into the characters and choices that shaped the conflict while introducing new twists that tie into today’s Marvel storytelling.
Gage explained that revisiting the original series revealed just how many layers were still left to explore. The title reflects both the literal unmasking tied to the Superhuman Registration Act and a deeper look into the motivations behind the characters’ most pivotal decisions.
