Stjepan Šejić, known for Sunstone, Ravine, Aphrodite IX, Witchblade, and Harleen, is bringing back his creator-owned series Death Vigil with a new chapter launching this August from Image Comics and Top Cow. Death Vigil (2026) #1 marks the beginning of the next phase for the fan-favorite series.
The return will also feature a set of collectible variant covers from artists Sozomaika and Mirka Andolfo.
The series drops readers into a world where death is only the beginning. Once you’re gone, you can join a group of Death Knights tasked with defending reality from necromancers and cosmic horrors. The job comes with its challenges, but the fight against the Primordial Enemy never stops.
“When I made the first story arc of this series, I was a no-name artist trying to establish myself as not just an artist but a writer as well,” said Šejić. “These days many of you know the caliber of storytelling I bring to the table. Be it mature-audience indie gems like Sunstone and Fine Print or mainstream books like Harleen, I bring layered, complicated characters and heart-wrenching tales. Many of you have, over time, read the original story arc of Death Vigil and saw its potential. Let us together now realize it. This is the second story arc. If you like it, get loud about it because without you there may not be a third one for a long time. And trust me… you want the third, the fourth, and the fifth one!”
At its core, Death Vigil follows modern-day Death Knights locked in a constant battle against ancient, world-ending forces. Those who join the Vigil gain immortality and powerful weapons, but only after crossing over into death itself.
Top Cow President and COO Matt Hawkins shared his excitement for the series’ return. “There aren’t many books that can balance cosmic horror, action, and genuine heart the way Death Vigil does.
