Marvel Comics has dropped a cryptic teaser that may signal the next major shift in its publishing slate, and it arrives at a very interesting moment.
The teaser is simple but striking. A black background, faint smoke curling through the darkness, and a clock ticking toward midnight. The tagline reads, “THE LIGHT HAD ITS TURN.” Alongside it comes a name: MIDNIGHT, described as “a terrifying new universe” launching this fall.
That’s all Marvel is saying for now, with more details promised next week, including series announcements and creative teams. Still, the imagery and tone leave plenty of room for speculation.
The use of “midnight” immediately brings to mind Marvel’s darker corners. Characters tied to the supernatural like Moon Knight feel like an obvious fit, especially given the ominous framing and horror-leaning vibe. The phrase “The light had its turn” suggests a pivot away from traditional superhero storytelling and into something more unsettling. This may even spill out of Queen in Black, given her powers.
Whether that means a horror-focused line, a new imprint, or a full alternate universe remains to be seen.

What makes the timing even more notable is where Marvel currently stands with its other major universe experiment. The Ultimate Universe, which relaunched to strong acclaim, is heading toward its conclusion with the Ultimate Endgame finale.
With that universe nearing its end, the arrival of MIDNIGHT feels less like a coincidence and more like the next phase. Marvel appears ready to close one chapter while opening another, potentially in a completely different tone and space.
For now, all eyes are on that ticking clock.
More details on MIDNIGHT are expected next week.
