Stan Lee’s legacy continues to inspire new collectibles, but you can’t often drink them. Fans can now toast the legendary Marvel creator with a premium wine.
Created in collaboration with Stan Lee Universe, the newly announced 2023 Stan Lee: Red Ascendant is a limited-production Bordeaux blend celebrating the life and imagination of the comic book icon. Priced at $85 per 750ml bottle, the wine is available now in limited quantities.
Stan Lee Universe has been busy of late, recently announcing a deal with ElevenLabs to use Lee’s voice and likeness in the company’s AI platform across voice, image, and music tools. A close inspection of the label reveals Stan Lee himself donning a cloak similar to Doctor Strange’s. The bottle also sports Lee’s signature.
The blend spent two years aging in 70% new French oak and was sourced from several acclaimed California vineyards, including Crown Point Vineyards, Grimm’s Bluff Vineyard, Star Lane Vineyard, Coquelicot Vineyard, and Santa Ynez Vineyard.
Red Ascendant combines 37% Malbec, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, and 8% Petite Sirah, creating what the vineyard describes as a bold, layered wine inspired by Stan Lee’s larger-than-life storytelling.
According to the official description:
“Born from bold varietals and a legacy that refuses to rest, Red Ascendant rises with the same fearless spirit that defines Stan Lee.”
The release is intentionally limited, with just 11 barrels produced, totaling 3,168 bottles.
The bottle’s marketing leans heavily into Stan Lee’s comic book legacy, inviting fans to “raise your glass, take your journey, and ascend beyond expectation,” before closing with Lee’s trademark rallying cry: “Excelsior!”
While comic-inspired wines have become increasingly common over the years, Red Ascendant stands out through its premium production, small-batch release, as well as collaboration with Stan Lee Universe.
If you’re a wine aficionado, be sure to toast by saying “Excelsior!”
