DC has announced José Luis García-López’s DC Classics Artist’s Edition, a deluxe oversized hardcover celebrating the work of one of the most influential artists in the publisher’s history. The 240-page volume arrives March 23, 2027, presenting García-López’s original artwork at its original size through high-resolution scans taken directly from the source pages.
Few artists have had a greater impact on the visual identity of DC Comics. For more than 60 years, García-López’s artwork has helped define characters such as Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and the Teen Titans. His illustrations for the famous DC Comics Style Guide became the definitive reference point for generations of artists, licensors, and fans, helping establish the look of the DC Universe across comics, merchandise, animation, and beyond.
The new Artist’s Edition is being billed as the most extensive collection of García-López original artwork ever assembled in this format.
DC has also provided an early look at several pieces featured in the book. Highlights include the original cover art for DC Comics Presents #1, a Lois Lane page from the DC Comics Style Guide, interior pages from DC Comics Presents #4 and #24, and the covers to Secret Origins #6 and Superman #322. Together, the selections showcase the precision, clarity, and storytelling ability that have made García-López’s work so enduring.
The collection includes seven complete stories featuring characters such as Batman, Jonah Hex, and Cinder and Ashe, along with a curated selection of covers, original pages, and rare artwork spanning the artist’s career. Many of the pages were inked by García-López himself, providing readers with an even closer look at his craftsmanship.
As with other Artist’s Editions curated by Scott Dunbier and Act 4 Publishing, the artwork is reproduced from full-color scans of the original boards. While the pages appear in black and white, readers will be able to see production details such as blue pencil marks, white-out corrections, editorial notes, ink textures, and other elements typically lost in standard reprints.
Printed at the original 12″ x 17″ art size, the volume aims to recreate the experience of viewing García-López’s original artwork as closely as possible.
