Dynamite Entertainment and Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products have announced a brand-new ThunderCats ongoing series launching this October, with acclaimed writer Greg Pak (Planet Hulk, Darth Vader) and artist David Cousens leading the franchise into its next chapter.
Dynamite says the new series offers readers an accessible jumping-on point while building on the current ThunderVerse. Lion-O and the ThunderCats have settled into life on Third Earth after the fall of Thundera, but ruling is no longer an option. Instead, they must learn to coexist with the SilverHawks, the Mu’Tants, and the many civilizations that call the planet home.
So what’s Thundercats #1 about?
The ThunderCats, once the proud sovereigns of Thundera, face a strange new life in exile on Third Earth, no longer ruling, but sharing the planet with the SilverHawks, the cat-hating Mu’Tants, and a multitude of unexplored societies. Lion-O, Lord of ThunderCats, still a youth in a man’s body, grows restless, hungry for bold action and heroism. But this is the time for subtle outreach and diplomacy to usher in an era of peace among equal peoples. Through the wise counsel of Tygra and the watchful friendship of Calica — who first appeared in ThunderCats (2024) #2, Lion-O swallows his pride and prepares to meet the moment.
But everything changes when a mysterious meteor streaks across the sky, casting strange light over an assembly of Third Earth’s tribes. Who is the Feral King? What is his mission? And whom will he champion — or destroy? The future of the ThunderCats, Mumm-Ra’s legions, and all the peoples of Third Earth hangs in the balance!
Joining Pak is David Cousens, whose previous work on Cheetara: Worldbreaker and numerous ThunderCats covers has already made him a favorite among fans. Colors are by Igor Monti, letters by Jeff Eckleberry, with Nate Cosby serving as editor.
“I’ve been hungry to dig into a story like this for years,” Pak said. “Anything can happen on Third Earth, and if you’ve ever watched the original ThunderCats cartoon, you know that anything and everything did. There’s a huge element of surprise and wildness to this blend of science fiction and fantasy, and we’re taking it as far as we can.”
Pak also teased a story that examines leadership and the challenges of moving beyond monarchy while still delivering the action fans expect from the franchise.
ThunderCats #1 will feature covers by David Cousens, Mark Spears, Daniele Cellini, Stephen Byrne, and Seth Damoose. Collectors can also hunt for mystery blind bag variants, with Dynamite teasing a surprise exclusive that will be revealed closer to release.

The new series follows the conclusion of the ThunderCats x SilverHawks crossover and joins the recently announced ThunderCats: Cheetara, the character’s first ongoing solo series from writer Saladin Ahmed and artist Andrea Arcari. Together, the books mark the beginning of a new chapter for the ThunderVerse.
