The 5 Coolest New and Upcoming Indie Games

While there are endless titles for gamers on phones, consoles, and computer, few games can appeal to gamers like a true indie game. Indie games are games produced by independent companies without a distributor, which allows them to create unique titles at an affordable price. Here are a few of the most interesting indie games that are either out now, or coming soon.

1. Transistor

With visually stunning graphics and exciting gameplay, Transistor, for PlayStation 4, promises to be one the best RPG titles next year, if not one of the best indie games out on the new Sony platform. Created by the indie game company SuperGiants, the game transports you to a futuristic city where you are free to explore your surroundings. While there is no set release date, the game should be out by the beginning of 2014.

2. Boulder Dash XL

Originally created in 1984 and released for several gaming consoles, Boulder Dash XL puts some modern touches on classic gameplay. The gameplay is compared to that of Tetris meets Dig Dug, only now, there are tons of variations on gameplay. If you’re into old school gaming, the game is currently available for Android. If you don’t have a smart phone, get with the times and buy an HTC phone. You’ll look hi-tech even if you are still playing games from the 80s.

3. Zombies, Run! 2

This super creative app is an improvement on the original Zombies, Run! where you literally run to play the game. The idea is simple. You run the game on your mobile device, and literally run in real life to evade the zombies and restore a ravaged city back to civilization. All in all, it’s a great way to get some exercise and satisfy your gaming itch. It’s currently available for $3.99 on your smartphone.

4. Among the Sleep

This title is among the most unique concepts to be released in recent memory. Developed by Krillbite Games, Among the Sleep lets you take first-person control of an interesting main character – a 2-year-old child. The game attempts to infiltrate the mind of a child, and blurs reality with the dream world. In the game, you will be faced with different tasks and battle enemies in order to return back to normalcy. The game should be available for Mac and PC at the beginning of next year.

5. Monaco

Monaco is a multi-player game that gives its players the ability to conduct bank robberies and other heists. Currently available for Xbox 360 and PC, you can choose a character in either single player or cooperative mode and conduct heists. The gameplay is creative, and the thought of stealing things with your friends in a legal context makes it addictive.

Over the next few years, as next generation home gaming platforms come out and smartphone technology becomes more high tech, games will undoubtedly become more addictive and titles will be plentiful. Keep up to date on the latest releases and impress your friends.
