Is It Good? Spider-Man 2099 #8 Review

Spider-Verse continues this week with one lone book of the 2099 flavor. Is it good?

Spider-Man 2099 (2014-) #8 (Marvel Comics)

Is It Good? Spider-Man 2099 #8 Review

This issue opens with Spider-Man 2099 and Lady Spider in the “safe zone” that was made no longer safe last month. The Inheritors infiltrated, killed the Cosmic Spider-Man that made the Earth safe and stole the Scion AKA Benjy Mayday’s baby brother. The issue focuses on the two working together to build a weapon that’ll surprise the Inheritors and maybe turn the tide.

That’s pretty funny.

Peter David writes a good issue here with his customary witticisms and clever dialogue to spruce up the characters. For the most part it’s all about the mission at hand, but he does delve into Lady Spider’s world a bit as the plot takes them to her Earth 803, which takes place in 1895.

This portion of the story is a bit odd, particularly because we don’t have a lot of exposure to it, but given how much time is spent on it these characters must matter more in the coming months. That said, it’s fun to see Spider-Man 2099 go toe to toe with the technologies that the Six Men of Sinestry have come up with. Even though Spider-Man 2099 has tech that’s 200 years more advanced they still give him a fight and it’s entertaining stuff.

Check out the spider emblem front and center!

Of course this is in large part because of the fantastic art by Will Sliney. As always Spider-Man looks phenomenal and I wouldn’t be surprised if kids read his work and try to emulate it in order to get better at drawing the human form. The muscles and poses he draws for Spider-Man are fantastic. He’s got to be the best artist at drawing the Spider-Man form today. His layouts are also well thought out and interesting with good pacing and well timed close ups for good measure.

Awesome poses.

Is It Good?

Another well drawn issue with good pacing and nice character moments. Entertaining, plus it includes plot elements important to the Spider-Verse event. Score!
