Deadpool should have seen the signs, but he didn’t, and now our favorite merc with a mouth is in over his head. Marriage. Ha. Being tied down to Shiklah, Queen of the Monster Metropolis, is already proving to be a royal pain in the ass, and now that the monsters under Manhattan have declared war on the humans living above them, Deadpool has to choose sides.

Deadpool #28 (Marvel Comics)
Deadpool #28 starts out strong with writer Gerry Duggan introducing some serious conflict. Within the first few pages of this book, Duggan drops Deadpool off at a sort of crossroads where he must choose between being a hero and being a ‘good’ husband. Tough call, right? It appears as though Deadpool is handling the situation well enough, but chances are, this marriage is going to get a whole lot worse before it gets better.
Despite being relatively light, it’s obvious that Duggan is incorporating some depth into this arc which will provide readers with another reason to pick up these books and eye them once more after their initial reading. The conflict that the issue opens with is based on the undeniable fact that Lady Justice’s scales aren’t always as balanced as they may appear. Sure, Duggan doesn’t spend a whole lot of time driving this point home, but it’s there nonetheless.
Salvador Espin’s art works, but nothing stands out. I wouldn’t say that his illustrations were dull or lifeless, but I did want more…something…Perhaps, Deadpool #28 just wasn’t the right venue to show off Espin’s skills.
While Deadpool #28 isn’t a laugh riot, it has its moments. The energy levels dip in the middle, but issue #28 starts out with a bang and ends with one that’s just as exciting. Gerry Duggan has produced an entertaining issue while simultaneously setting the next several chapters of this arc. Thus, it’s a successful issue, and I recommend reading it.
