Mike Mignola announces ‘Hellboy’ reboot

The comic book world is collectively freaking out today. Famed Hellboy creator Mike Mignola has officially announced through his Facebook page that Hellboy will be getting another movie (finally!). The film is slated to be rated R with Stranger Things star David Harbour starring as Hellboy and Neil Marshall (Game of Thrones, The Descent) directing.

Though the details of the announcement comes as a bittersweet surprise to some fans. The previous team of Ron Perlman as Hellboy and Guillermo Del Toro in the directors seat will not be making a return. Ron Perlman is to Hellboy what Robert Downey Jr. is to Iron Man–he IS the living, breathing incarnation of the character. Needless to say David Harbour has massive shoes to fill and quite the challenge ahead of him.

The reboot has been titled Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen, with Mignola co-writing the script. As the details of the film are still being negotiated, no release date has been set at this time.
