Marvel enjoyed another month topping the charts in single issue comic sales in June 2017, as Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man #1 took the top spot. Spider-Man is one of the most popular characters in all of comics, but Homecoming mania probably helped push it along. Secret Empire nabbed two spots as well, with issues #4 and #5.
DC, thanks entirely to Batman, grabbed four spots in the top 10: Dark Days: The Forge #1, Batman #24 and #25, and Dark Knight III: The Master Race #9. Image’s The Walking Dead, as usual, was a distant #10 with issue #168.

1) Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man #1
AiPT! Score:
“The actual plot here is a little lacking, but humorous dialogue, likable characters, and charming art help this series get off to a good start.”

2) Dark Days: The Forge #1
AiPT! Score:
“Dark Days: The Forge is an excellent opening salvo to a story that’s incredibly epic and large, especially for Batman. This is very much an event series in scope and should have fans reeling with what comes next.”

3) Star Wars: Darth Vader #1
AiPT! Score:
“What really gives me goosebumps from reading this story is the realization that I’m witnessing new canon being written about one of the most important characters in the Star Wars universe.”

4) Batman #24
AiPT! Score:
“Whether or not you agree with the ending, you can’t deny there’s a poetic symmetry between art and writing in this issue. It’s a great example of how comics can lift up ideas in meaningful and visual ways without a single punch.”

5) Dark Knight III: The Master Race #9
AiPT! Score:
“The series as a whole may have had its ups and downs, but make no mistake: this is an excellent conclusion to a series that makes up for the lackluster sequel to The Dark Knight.”

6) Batman #25
AiPT! Score:
“The stage has been set for a battle of epic proportions between two of Batman’s deadliest foes — and even though we’ve seen so little, the conflict between them promises to be every bit as powerful a the desperate measures Batman will be forced to take. Recommended.”

8) Secret Empire #4
AiPT! Score:
“Secret Empire is turning out to be a red letter event. This chapter is the first indication it’s not just a good event, but one that’ll be compared to Marvel’s best.”

9) Secret Empire #5
AiPT! Score:
“The tide begins to turn as the series begins to close in on its conclusion. Make no mistake, this event suffers from some typical event-like issues, but it’s also very good at capturing the voice of any character no matter the scene.”
