Kairi Sane will vie for the NXT Women’s Championship at TakeOver: Houston

To the victor goes the chance.

Following her impressive win over Shayna Baszler in the finals of the Mae Young Classic, Kairi Sane will have an opportunity to compete for the NXT Women’s Title at the brand’s next TakeOver special in November. The news came as part of an ESPN interview with WWE Vice President of Talent, Live Events and Creative, Paul “Triple H” Levesque, who spoke highly of Sane’s potential in the largest professional wrestling company in the world.

“[I’m] very excited that she’s the first champion, and now the question is ‘What’s next for her?’ I can tell you what’s next for her,” Triple H told ESPN. “On Nov. 18 at the Toyota Center at the next NXT TakeOver, Kairi will be fighting to determine a new NXT women’s champion.”

Exactly whom the athletic Sane will be facing for the championship is currently unknown, though that will likely be decided during next week’s round of NXT tapings in Orlando. Those tapings, which had been originally planned for this week, were pushed back due to the devastation of hurricane Irma.

Recently vacated by “The Empress of Tomorrow” Asuka following the Japanese superstar’s more than 500-day reign as champion, the NXT Women’s championship has had a storied legacy. Of the five women to hold the belt, four have gone on to win a women’s title on the main roster. With Asuka recently announced for the Raw brand, how long before she joins those ranks?
