After reading this issue it’s quite clear if you ever want to give a series a fair chance you should read the first three issues at least. Andy Diggle and Luca Casalanguida have instilled James Bond: Kill Chain with new locations and fellow spies from other nations, which gives the series a wider scope and feel. This issue is set in Geneva and has Bond chasing after some artifacts, which of course ends up in a car chase only Bond could pull off.
So what’s it about?
The official summary reads:
As tensions rise between MI6 and CIA, James Bond investigates the death of a fellow agent. Someone is smuggling military-grade weapons to European neo-Nazis, an arms pipeline stretching from the gutters of Munich to the upper echelons of Swiss high society. The trail will lead 007 to an old friend, a deadly betrayal, and an enigmatic art connoisseur named Chantal Chevalier.
Why does this matter?
It’s safe to say James Bond will live on forever since his smooth and sophisticated approach to killing and keeping Britain safe is so damn cool. He’s the kind of hero everyone wants to be under pressure.
Fine, you have my attention. What’s good about it?
Never touch a man’s gadget.
This series is quite good at dropping the reader into a new location and situation only to have Bond shoot his way out of a sticky situation. This time he’s paired up with a French spy–last issue it was a CIA agent–and both times he’s blown their cover. Given the history these characters have the agents aren’t too pissed off over it though it’s interesting to see Bond ruin their missions to help his own. Diggle has Bond keep his cool in this issue, as he would, but there’s varying ways he gets himself out of tight situations. There’s a smorgasbord of action here that fans shouldn’t miss; from using a gadget to break free, to shooting his way out a window, to finally a riveting car chase — this issue almost has it all save for a sex scene and a Bond babe.
Casalanguida draws another solid issue and possibly the strongest of the series so far. The car chase takes place during the day, which allows it to open up a bit and look more interesting. Bond always looks badass with his sharp as hell jaw and calm look which Casalanguida nails throughout. The last few pages do well to remind readers about the villains behind everything and Casalanguida chooses good angles to draw the reader in.
It can’t be perfect can it?
This is one of those action series that you can jump right into and miss nearly nothing, which is somewhat unfortunate. Truly, if you didn’t read the last two issues you’d pretty much gather everything here. Those issues were entertaining, but the story isn’t really building so much as moving laterally in interesting ways.

Another strong issue that amps up the action and plot. Bring on issue #4!
