Rumor Mill: Jake Gyllenhaal is ‘probably Batman’ after reports Warner Bros. is ‘sour on Affleck’

Could Jake Gyllenhaal be ready to take the Bat-film mantle from Ben Affleck?

At the time of our last report on director Matt Reeves’ upcoming Batman film, The Batman, it looked likely that actor Jon Hamm was the director’s favorite to assume the Bat-mantle. Recent rumors seem to suggest the pendulum swinging back towards Jake Gyllenhaal.

According to Revenge of the Fans, despite Warner Bros. “[pulling] out all of the stops to try and convince [current Batman actor Ben Affleck] to stick around,” in the past, lately the studio has been seriously reconsidering their options:

Gyllenhaal is probably Batman. Affleck is not out of it yet. That’s the thing, he still has a contract. But the studio is sour on him. If Ben rolls, Jake is in. Kind of a weird web. These guys both know they control each other’s destiny.

Has Ben Affleck been a befitting Batman or should the blame be placed on the material that he’s had to work with? Should he step aside and let Gyllenhaal assume the role if his heart isn’t in the role? Or should we chalk this up to Hollywood posturing and give Affleck another chance? (The man has contract obligations after all.) Sound off in the comments.
