We may finally see a trailer for ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ during the Super Bowl

The wait to see our favorite scruffy looking nerf herder may finally be over.

With the latest film from the Star Wars franchise Solo: A Star Wars Story only four months away, fans everywhere have been asking themselves the same thing: where the heck is the trailer? It’s unusual for a franchise with such a massive following to wait this long to begin their marketing campaign. Thankfully, the wait may finally be over.

Ron Howard, the film’s director, dropped a less-than-subtle hint today from his official Twitter account.

Year after year, the Super Bowl retains its crown as the most watched television event of the year. Due to the incredible numbers it pulls in, the NFL can and does charge utterly insane prices for advertisement space. A 30-second ad costs upwards of $5 million, so for a movie trailer that’s two plus minutes long, it’s quite the investment.

Unfortunately, since the film began principal photography in January of last year, almost all the news we’ve heard has been largely negative. Disney was so displeased with lead actor Alden Ehrenreich’s performance that they had to bring in an acting coach for him. The film began under the direction of Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, but Disney fired the pair on June 20th of last year, citing “creative differences.” Hopefully Ron Howard’s exceptional directorial skills have since righted the ship.

The film is scheduled to be released on May 25, 2018 — the 41st anniversary of A New Hope, where Harrison Ford first appeared as Han Solo.
