Shanghai Dragons release Fang “Undead” Chao from roster

More roster shakeups for the Shanghai Dragons.

Thursday evening the Shanghai Dragons announced the release of Fang “Undead” Chao from their roster. The team notes the release came with approval from the Overwatch League office and the announcement was made from the team’s Twitter account.

The team had this to say, “Roster Change: Today Shanghai Dragons announce the release of Fang “Undead” Chao, with the approval of OWL office. Shanghai Dragons are grateful for the contributions “Undead” has made so far this season, and wish him all best in his future career.”

The release won’t come as a surprise to most OWL fans. Having yet to secure a single victory, the winless Dragons have had enough trouble on their hands without the inclusion of Undead’s personal life controversy. During Stage 2 of OWL details of Undead’s personal life began to surface and to say it painted the player as an asshole would be putting it lightly.

There have been multiple accusations by multiple women that Chao was repeatedly unfaithful, dishonest and didn’t pay child support. With one woman claiming that Chao coerced her to abort two pregnancies. Towards the end of Stage 2 he returned to China and never returned.

Hopefully the removal of Undead and the controversy that surrounded him will aid the Dragons in getting a their first victory. The Dragons open Stage 3 on Wednesday April 4th against the Dallas Fuel at 7:00 PM.
