After last issue of The Flash I was feeling quite negative towards the future of the title. Thankfully, this issue has regained my hope – at least a little. The writing by Williamson is much better and the art by Di Giandomenico is pretty good; it’s just a shame that it’s not consistent through the whole arc.

So what’s it about?

The official summary reads:

“PERFECT STORM” part five! With the Flash Family hot on his heels, Barry takes the fight to Grodd. If he’s going to survive, he’ll need to steal his powers back and stop Grodd by any means necessary!

Tell me about it!

Flash has recovered from a bit of a rut. Unsurprisingly the weird actions of Barry are explained as Grodd’s influence. A good part of the issue is seeing Wally break through Grodd’s mind control for a while to be able to talk to Barry. Another great part is Williamson harking back to how Barry should be — a super geek — by showing that his way of keeping Grodd out is to repeat physics terms. The panels showing all of Wally’s history is amazing to see, with Barry’s original suit and Wally’s accident. The best part is that Barry’s suit is the silver age one without the stupid lines all across the suit.

Barry healing Grodd instead of just beating him down was great as it showed off how he’s a hero rather than just a superpowered guy who’ll beat up all his adversaries.

The art by Di Giandomenico is really great to see with colors by Plascencia that are so vibrant and great to look at. It really shows off how the lightning coming off the different speedsters are distinct due to their costumes. Some of the pages with their large images of Flash and other characters with such bright vibrant colors are spectacular and honestly are some of the best work that’s been done with Di Giandomenico’s art.

Overall, this is a much better issue than last writing wise and Di Giandomenicos art is great.

Is it good?
A much better issue than last writing wise and Di Giandomenicos art is great with Plascencias colours this week.
The writing has improved from last issue.
Di Giandomenico's art has never looked better.
Plascencia's colors are absolutely gorgeous on the art.
The story feels like it's dragging its heels a little.
