Dark Horse Comics series ‘Resident Alien’ getting a TV pilot at SyFy

From Universal Cable Productions, Chris Sheridan (“Family Guy”) Will Executive Produce, Alongside Dark Horse Entertainment and Amblin TV

It seems like every other month has new news about movies being made from the comic book industry. Marvel Comics is obviously leading the back, but Valiant Entertainment isn’t far behind with a planned universe of films coming soon. Dark Horse Comics is the latest in line as today we learned SyFy has announced it has picked up Resident Alien for a pilot. Once more, it’s even better news that the show is the first to be picked up for pilot by SyFy for their 2018 development slate.

The comic, co-created by Peter Hogan (who we interviewed recently) and Steve Parkhouse, follows a fish-out-of-water story about an alien who has crash landed in a small town in Colorado. The series probes whether or not aliens should save humanity and whether or not they’re worth it.

Dark Horse Comics series 'Resident Alien' getting a TV pilot at SyFy

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif., (May 31, 2018)-SYFY today announced that RESIDENT ALIEN, a drama based on the Dark Horse comics series of the same name by co-creators Peter Hogan and Steve Parkhouse, has been picked up to pilot. From Universal Cable Productions, the series was adapted to television by executive producer Chris Sheridan (“Family Guy”). Mike Richardson (“The Mask”) and Keith Goldberg (“The Legend of Tarzan”) of Dark Horse Entertainment, and Justin Falvey (“The Americans”) and Darryl Frank (“The Americans”) of Amblin TV will also executive produce.

RESIDENT ALIEN is a dark, twisted and comedic fish-out-of-water story that follows a crash-landed alien named Harry who, after taking on the identity of a small-town Colorado doctor, slowly begins to wrestle with the moral dilemma of his secret mission on Earth — ultimately asking the question, “Are human beings worth saving?”

RESIDENT ALIEN is the first pilot to be picked up off of SYFY’s 2018 development slate.

The network recently picked up two high profile projects to series: DEADLY CLASS, based on the acclaimed Image Comics graphic novel of the same name, and NIGHTFLYERS, a space-based thriller based on author George R.R. Martin’s novella. The new dramas join the network’s current lineup of popular science fiction, fantasy, comics, superhero and horror programming, including original series KRYPTON, HAPPY!, THE MAGICIANS, CHANNEL ZERO, KILLJOYS, 12 MONKEYS and FACE OFF — and co-produced series and movies WYNONNA EARP, Z NATION, VAN HELSING and SHARKNADO. Looking to the future, SYFY is actively developing a rich pipeline of major genre projects, including BRAVE NEW WORLD, THE RAVEN CYCLE and HYPERION.
