Ever since Sir Patrick Stewart’s social media announcement August 4, fans of Star Trek–and The Next Generation series, in particular–have been speculating as to what the upcoming Captain Jean-Luc Picard show could be about, or who might return from TNG’s beloved cast.
Well, TNG’s Lieutenant Commander Data himself, Brent Spiner, is in attendance at FAN EXPO Boston August 10-12, so you better believe someone was going to ask about the actor’s level of involvement in the upcoming CBS All Access series. And that happened pretty soon after the Spiner-focused FAN EXPO panel opened the floor to audience questions. After playing coy for laughs, Spiner launched into his dead-on Captain Picard impression, saying, “I cannot do this show… without Brent Spiner” to much applause.
But that was only Picard speaking, not Spiner, as he clarified:
“I haven’t heard anything about it other than that Patrick announced it in Vegas that he’s doing it,” Spiner told the audience. “I think it’s fantastic. I can’t wait to see it. You know, he’s one of the best actors there is and perfect doing Captain Picard as one of his greatest characters and I’m as anxious as you are to see it.”
