Doom Patrol set photos reveal first look at Robotman, Negative Man and more

The Doom Patrol has come to life before our eyes.

The first set photos for DC Universe’s live-action series Doom Patrol, give us our first look at the iconic band of misfit heroes in real life. Feast your eyes below on Robotman, Negative Man, Crazy Jane and Elasti-Woman.

Listen to the latest episode of our weekly comics podcast!

In the set photos we can see Riley Shanahan, the on set physical version of Robotman. Brendan Fraser will be providing the voice of the character and appearing as Cliff Steele (Robotman before his accident) in flashbacks. It’s very exciting to see how accurate the costume looks when measured up to Gerard Way and Nick Derington’s incarnation of the character.

Diana Guerrero looks the part as Crazy Jane, a woman who was abused as a child and as a result suffers from multiple personality disorder. Each personality has their own unique abilities and powers. As with Robotman, the costume for Crazy Jane is closely accurate to the source material.

I assume we’re looking at Dwain Murphy fully decked out in his costume as Negative Man, unless it’s a stunt double. Either way, his costume is fantastic and spot on. Negative Man is one of the more powerful members of Doom Patrol, but he views his powers as more of a curse than a blessing.

Lastly we have April Bowlby as Elasti-Woman, looking elegant in a vintage green dress. Elasti-Woman aka Rita Farr, was an Olympic swimmer turned Hollywood actress who gained the ability to expand or shrink her body at will after exposure to volcanic gases.

When fans got their first look at the costumes for the upcoming live-action Titans series, the reaction wasn’t what I’d call pretty. To put it simply, people were angry. I don’t anticipate a similar reaction from fans for the first look at the Doom Patrol. The costumes seen here are all accurate, faithful to the source material and look pretty darn cool.

DC Universe launches on Sep 15 for $7.99 a month or $74.99 for 15 months (the first three months are free for subscribers who pre-order at DCUniverse.com). Titans will launch on October 12, with the Doom Patrol appearing in episode 5. Doom Patrol is set to release at some point during 2019.
