A little under a week ago, director Todd Phillips gave the world a sneak peak at Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker. Phillips posted a simple headshot of Phoenix as The Clown Prince of Crime on Instagram. The reaction was mixed, with some drawing comparisons to No Country for Old Men while others were eager to get more details about the upcoming Joker movie.
It turns out those hungry for more information did not have to wait long to hear more. Phillips went back to Instagram to unveil a camera test documenting Phoenix’s transformation from stand-up comedian Arthur Fleck to the crime overlord in full make up the world is familiar with.
Though there is little information about the film, rumors are it is set to take place in Gotham City in the 1980s. The prequel film will be the origin story of what drove a stand-up comedian to become Batman’s most infamous arch-rival. The film is not planned to be a part of the DC Extended Universe.
The current release date for Joker is October 4,2019.
