In wake of massive layoffs, ‘The Walking Dead’ developer Telltale Games closes down

Telltale Games, California-based publisher of such episodic-oriented games as The Walking Dead, Batman: The Telltale Series and Game of Thrones announced Friday they’d be shutting down operations after fourteen years of service:

The news comes in the aftermath of “a majority of the company’s employees [being] dismissed earlier this morning… following a year marked by insurmountable challenges,” according to Telltale CEO Pete Hawley. “It’s been an incredibly difficult year for Telltale as we worked to set the company on a new course. Unfortunately, we ran out of time trying to get there,” Hawley continued. “We released some of our best content this year and received a tremendous amount of positive feedback, but ultimately, that did not translate to sales. With a heavy heart, we watch our friends leave today to spread our brand of storytelling across the games industry.”

US Gamer reports that The Walking Dead: The Final Season will be discontinued after the second episode, “Suffer the Children” launches on September 25th, 2018. The Wolf Among Us 2 is also cancelled. The status of other games is as of yet unknown.
