‘Thrilling Adventure Hour #3’ review: Hinting at big revelations in the lead up to the finale

Acker and Blacker continue to play with the differences between the spoken podcast and the comics medium in this series.

In the penultimate issue of this limited series, revelations are made and an even greater evil comes to light.

As an airplane carrying the malevolent force continues its journey across the ocean, the action picks up where it left off in the last issue. While the reporter is stuck outside the house, inside Adam tells the group how he became a vampire and subsequently, how his girlfriend died and became the ghost haunting the house.

Unfortunately, he traps the group in a thrall as well. Can Frank and Sadie get themselves and Dave and Donna Henderson out of this pickle with their blood still in their bodies?

Is It Good?

Acker and Blacker continue to play with the differences between the spoken podcast and the comics medium in this series – this time they play with physical comedy with Adam only being able to fully thrall three people at a time. We also get some signature word play with the soup story and Frank and Sadie being adorable with each other.

Erickson plays a bit with style of her art in this issue, particularly with the story of the old man and Death. But I really liked how she drew Adam’s fangs:

The one weak link in the story so far has been the mysterious reporter. His story felt a little tacked on, especially as the narrator of the issues. However, his revelation of the literally big bad that will be coming into the conclusion was a great ending for the issue, and I’m interested how this will all wrap up in the final issue.

Fun physical comedy bits
Mixing it up with art styles
Mysterious reporter's story felt kind of tacked on
Not sure how the Old Man and Death story applied to the larger story
