October Movies to Look Forward To

October Movies to Look Forward To

Looking at some of the most anticipated movies of October.

There is more to October than just candy, costumes, and Halloween. (Be sure that you check out our 31 Days of Halloween section where the staff of AiPT! will have at least one new article up every day.) The scariest month of the year will also include some possible Oscar worthy titles along with some interesting looking films.

Venom (Nationwide): A stand alone movie starring everyone’s favorite Symbiote has been a long time coming. Will Venom finally get the movie that we have all been waiting years for or will fans be disappointed by another failed big screen appearance?

The Hate U Give (Nationwide): Based on the 2017 young adult novel of the same name, the story follows high school student Starr Carter as she juggles the various parts of her high school life. The shooting of a friend changes her life forever.

A Star is Born (Nationwide): The third remake of the movie sees Bradley Cooper make his directorial debut and Lady Gaga in the lead role. The movie has already received positive reviews on the festival circuit. For curiosity’s sake alone, this is worth a watch.

October 10th

The Happy Prince (Limited): Written by and starring Rupert Everett, the passion project is about the final days of one of the most quotable and wittiest writers of all time, Oscar Wilde. The impressive cast also includes Colin Firth and Emily Watson.

October 12th

First Man (Nationwide): Controversy regarding the flags aside, this movie about Neil Armstrong and his mission to the moon seems like a lock for awards season. The fact that it is directed by Academy Award winner Damien Chazelle and Emmy winner Claire Foy only adds to expectation.

Bad Times at the El Royale (Nationwide): An ensemble cast leads the way for a thriller that looks like it will be really good or very disappointing. Seven strangers all wind up in the same hotel and it seems like something strange is going on. Be warned: the trailer seems too say too much.

Beautiful Boy (Limited): Starring Oscar nominees Steve Carrell and Timothy Chalamet, director Felix Van Groeningen’s English language debut is about a father trying to deal with his son’s drug addition. The movie’s emotional story lends itself to powerful performances.

October 19th

Halloween (Nationwide): One of the most iconic horror films in history receives what looks like it will be its first worthy sequel in decades. The film seems to be taking the series back to when Michael Myers was actually scary and not just a cool mask.

Mid90s (Limited): Jonah Hill’s love letter to the 1990s looks like a tamer and more focused version of Kids. That being said, Kids is an outrageous movie that does not have a clear plot. If Mid90s is more of a story than an homage, then Hill may have written something special.

October 26th

Suspiria (Nationwide): The remake of the Dario Argento classic has already received plenty of positive buzz. With a cast that includes Dakota Johnson, Tilda Swinton, and Chloe Grace Moretz and music music composed by Thom Yorke that is hardly surprising.
