The upcoming release of Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! & Eevee! this week, fans of the series were hit with an extra bit of fun news on top of it. On Nov. 12, Warner Bros. Pictures released the first trailer for Pokémon: Detective Pikachu. Based off the video game spin-off earlier in the year, our story focuses on a young man named Tim Goodman, played Justice Smith, whose dad had disappeared a while ago. Checking out his dad’s office, he discovers a Pikachu, voiced by Ryan Reynolds, who he can understand. From there, the two team up (at least reluctantly on Goodman’s part) to figure out what happened to Goodman’s dad and solve some big cases.
The trailer features other actors and actresses like Kathryn Newton and Ken Watanabe in leading roles and shows off tons upon tons of Pokémon in this world, depicted in a more “realistic” way. There are plenty of sneaky Easter eggs I caught while watching the trailer, alluding to the spin-off game itself and even the main games themselves. See how many you can find.
Pokémon: Detective Pikachu is set to arrive in the summer of 2019. Later in the year, a new main Pokémon game will be coming out as well, so there will be plenty of fun for fans of the franchise to look forward.
