It appears 2019 might be the year for monster lovers to rejoice. Godzilla is getting a new movie and Mezco Toyz is producing an excellent King Kong action figure for only $40! I got my hands on a copy and was impressed in quite a few ways. Check out the video below.
As you can see it’s a very detailed figure. The hair is great, the heads and detailing in the mouth, nose, and eyes are excellent. There’s even a mini person to throw into his hand! The shackles are an ingenious accessory too and make it that much more displayable. The quality and paint job across the board is nearly perfect.
That said, the mini Ann Darrow does have a paint defect in my copy (a tiny spot on her forehead). I was also a tad disappointed with the articulation which is quite stiff. You can’t put Kong in a million poses. That said, how many poses does this great ape need?
Overall I liked this figure, but I wasn’t in love with it. For $40 though it’s practically a steal considering the quality and accessories. This will be a perfect gift for a monster lover on your Christmas list.
