Come 2021, The Batman won’t be alone. Matt Reeves’ The Batman has a release date (and is Affleck-less), but it won’t be the only DC film that year — James Gunn’s Suicide Squad and DC Super Pets have gotten release dates.
The Hollywood Reporter reports that Suicide Squad is ”not being labeled a direct sequel but as a relaunch”, and that Gunn intends ”to take the franchise in a new direction with a mostly all-new cast of characters and actors… very much rooted in Gunn’s vibe”.
Going by this, it wouldn’t likely directly follow up on the 2016 film and might not include the same characters or actors, though I’d say Amanda Waller and Rick Flagg would likely feature, due to being Suicide Squad staples.

Most recently, Gunn wrote and directed the Guardians of the Galaxy films, as well as executive producing Avengers: Infinity War.
DC Super Pets is to be co-directed by Jared Stern, who wrote the screenplay of LEGO Batman Movie, and Sam Levine, one of the Wreck-it-Ralph writers. The Super Pets are Supergirl’s cat Streaky, Superman’s dog Krypto, Batman’s dog Ace and many more.
It’s unclear whether this film will be animated or live action, though I’d say due to the premise it’d be animated.
DC Super Pets is coming 21st May, 2021, while Gunn’s Suicide Squad is 6th August, 2021.
