John Brolin joins the all-star cast of Denis Villeneuve’s ‘Dune’ reboot

Can this cast get any better? Doubtful.

John Brolin has officially joined the all-star cast of Denis Villeneuve’s upcoming Dune reboot. If the film is to be judged by its cast, then it’s quickly shaping up to be one of the biggest sci-fi epics ever.

The adaptation of the legendary Frank Herbert novel is already boasting Timotheè Chamalet in the lead role of Paul “Maud’Dib” Atreides, the outlaw duke and Fremen messiah, Jessica Ferguson as Paul’s mother the Lady Jessica, Javier Bardem as the Fremen leader Stilgar, Stellan Skarsgard as Baron Vladimir Harkonnen, and Dave Bautista as Glossu “The Beast” Rabban. Reports indicate that Oscar Issac and Zendaya are in talks to join the cast in the roles of Duke Leto Atreides, and Chani, respectively.

Dune is being adapted from the novel of the same name by Frank Herbert and is regarded as one of the most groundbreaking works within the sci-fi community. Legendary Entertainment acquired the film and TV rights in November 2016.

“Most of the main ideas of Star Wars are coming from Dune so it’s going to be a challenge to [tackle] this. The ambition is to do the Star Wars movie I never saw. In a way, it’s Star Warsfor adults.” said Villeneuve on the script.

Denis Villeneuve will be directing and co-writing the script with Eric Roth and Jon Spaihts. Villeneuve has stated he aims to adapt the novel into a two-part film series, with the draft having been finished as of May of 2018.

Set in the distant future, a feudal intergalactic empire exists in a state of constant intrigue centered around the desert planet Dune, the only place in the universe where the drug melange can be harvested. Commonly referred to as “spice,” melange enables interstellar space travel and civilization relies on it to survive. The young noble Paul Atreides and his family are sent to Dune to rule, and it’s here that his destiny is set in motion.

Pre-production for the project is in full swing and with most of the major castings complete, fan should expect filming to begin this Spring. At this time no release date is available.
