Spoilers ahead. You’ve been warned. For more, read our review.
Kraven the Hunter has typically gone after Spider-Man due to his physical prowess, but it appears his sights are set on a different type of beast in Amazing Spider-Man #16. Nick Spencer has been teasing the return of Kraven for some time and it appears is grand plan is finally starting. With the help of Arcade (as well as the help of Taskmaster and Black Ant to capture the villains), Kraven is preparing a hunt.
We learn rich folks who came to Kraven’s land to hunt animals are part of the hunt. They will track down and, presumably, kill these villains.
But why, what is the point of it all? Has Kraven gone corporate and started trying to make some cash off some poor animal-themed Spider-Man villains?
Later in the issue, Kraven explains to his cloned son…
It appears Kraven took great offense to these animal imposters. It’s time for them to reach their full potential as animal totems…or die!
What’s fascinating about this is how Kraven may be making Spider-Man’s greatest villains even more powerful. If they can survive this hunt and use the abilities of their animal powers more thoroughly, Spider-Man might be in grave danger when he undoubtedly fights them in future issues.
This is only part of the story and I highly recommend you read the full issue!
