GCW takes over WrestleMania week time slot after Nova Wrestling fails to pay its talent

The uglier side of wrestling.

One man’s loss is another man’s gain. At least that’s the case for indie wrestling promotion GCW after taking over the April 6th noon time slot for NOVA Wrestling. In a recent tweet, GCW updated fans of the additional event:

“GCW will assume the 4/6 Noon time slot & is working to provide an event worthy of your time & money. All tickets purchased for NOVA will be honored at this event.”

The news comes shortly after NOVA Pro Wrestling made its public announcement via Twitter regarding their impending hiatus.

Nova Wrestling has been mired in controversy over the past few days; several wrestlers have accused them of failing to pay them for services rendered, completing matches for events. The accusations from talent have spread across Twitter like wildfire, with more wrestlers providing input of neglect and dishonest business practices. The allegations have been harsh.

For those who may not be privy to NOVA, they are a Virginia-based promotion that has been in operation since 2015. The company has a reasonable following and is prone to booking recognizable talent from the indie scene: Joey Ryan, Jordynne Grace, Tracie Williams, and Jonathan Gresham are some of the familiar names who have worked for the promotion.

Many wrestlers rely on their paychecks from booking events heavily. Considering the toll and sacrifice that wrestling can take on a professional wrestler’s body it makes sense for so many of them to be up at arms over the matter.

Thankfully, GCW has done the fans a service in honoring their tickets. With the new show (Event name TBD) providing fans with an event to supplement their loss GCW is putting themselves in the good graces of indie wrestling fans everywhere.
