Rian Johnson reacts to ‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’ teaser: “I just melted”

‘If you need me I’ll be spending the rest of the day smiling dreamily.’

The world finally got its first look at the ninth installment of the Skywalker saga today at Star Wars Celebration, aptly titled The Rise of Skywalker. While TROS will be JJ Abrams’ second time at the helm of a Sequel Trilogy film, the previous episode, The Last Jedi, was written and directed by Rian Johnson.

The Last Jedi divided Star Wars fans like no movie in the franchise had before, so some fans were curious how he would feel about our first look at Abrams’ shot at closing out the trilogy. Turns out he was thrilled:

“I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS,” he wrote on Twitter, “and I just melted back into being a happy kid. If you need me I’ll be spending the rest of the day smiling dreamily.”

While not everyone may have agreed with the direction Johnson took the Star Wars franchise in The Last Jedi, it’s hard to argue his passion and enthusiasm for the series as a whole.

And like Johnson, I loved everything about this trailer as well. December can’t get here soon enough.
